On the Road - May 14
Greetings from the lobby of the Crowne Plaza in downtown Dayton, Ohio where I am live blogging on my last day of the GOOD ENOUGH Book Tour!
A quick recap of my last day on the tour before I head for the airport:
Tuesday May 13th:
After my lovely day in Cincinnati, I returned to Dayton where I spoke at Books and Co. at "The Green" outdoor shopping complex in Dayton. I talked to several people about how the novel was written and played my violin for them. One of the store employees, Ashley, brought her violin and played "Amazing Grace" for us! She sounded beautiful! Much thanks to Ashley and Sharon Roth for their generosity and support of my novel. (Note: I'm having trouble posting photos in the lobby, there's something funky with their wireless, so I'll post all the Dayton photos in a picture gallery next seek, so stay tuned...)
I then had dinner with Gretchen of the Dayton Main Library. She's a teen specialist and super super cool! We had a nice time chatting about books and enjoyed this yummy pasta at this fancy Italian restaurant! Check out their teen myspace page at: http://www.myspace.com/mainlibraryteensdml
Then I went back to my hotel, collapsed, worked a little bit on a TV project I'm involved with, and then watched "28 Days Later" on cable TV and fell asleep.
Wednesday May 14th:
Today, Gretchen picked me up and took me to Stivers School for the Arts in Dayton. It's this fantastic arts and performing school for gifted high school students. She runs a book club there, so the students ate pizza and we talked about writing and I played some violin for them and showed them a slide show on how to make Spam sushi as depicted in my book. The students were very smart and asked great questions. I loved hanging out with them! And the pizza was really good, too!
Then I stopped by the cool Dayton library before heading back to my hotel. I've got some Hollywood work to do now (a phone conference call with the producers I'm working with on this super fun TV script project). It's been challenging, balancing this tour while working simultaneously on a script project job, but the fun far outweighs the lack of sleep and busy jampacked schedule! I've basically taken over the corner of the lobby, it's my unofficial office for the next few hours.
Well, I had a blast on this tour and learned a lot about the rigors of book promotion and touring. I'm so grateful for everyone's support and generosity, and I truly enjoyed meeting some amazing teachers, librarians, booksellers, and of course, the coolest students in the WORLD!
Stay tuned for lots of cool picture galleries next week from my tour! Until then, keep reading!!!! Support your libraries and independent bookstores!!!!!
